Advert: Ladies Who Learn

Ladies Who Learn is a series of inspiring morning lectures for mums (and dads) on maternity/paternity leave or who crave a bit of intellectual stimulus after morning nursery or school drop-off. The talks cover a broad spectrum of topics (nothing to do with children or parenthood) and the speakers will be charismatic leaders in their fields.

The two initial talks will be downstairs in Canham on Sheen Lane in East Sheen.  It's a really lovely venue, there's parking a minute away in East Sheen Library car park and they do good coffee!

2nd November 10:30 to 11:30 - Ali Cook - the History of Magic (with a few tricks thrown in)

Ali Cook is taking time out from his national tour to come and speak to Ladies who Learn.

Ali is a sleight of hand magician, escapologist, illusionist and performer of thought control. His sell-out shows have earned him Magic's highest accolade - Member of the Inner Circle with Gold Star, alongside the likes of David Copperfield. Ali has also written and starred in 9 TV shows.

"edgy, intelligent, self-referential, caustically hilarious and one of the most sought after illusionists on the planet" GQ magazine

9th November 10:30 to 11:30 - Ben Street - Modigliani

The perfect way to prepare for the Tate's upcoming major exhibition.

Ben is a consultant lecturer on modern and contemporary art for the Christie's Education MA and lectures on art old and new for the National Gallery, Tate, Royal Academy, Victoria and Albert Museum and Sotheby's Institute of Art.

He is the author of numerous texts for various international publications including Art Review, Apollo and Art Quarterly magazines. Ben was the co-writer and presenter of 'Duchamp's Urinal for BBC Radio 4'.

'He is truly a master teacher. I learned so much.' Patrick Lee

Talks cost £14 if booked in advance or £15 on the door.
